Baldness General
Information
Baldness, which is
also known as alopecia, is hair loss, or lack of hair. It
involves the state of losing hair where it normally grows, most
especially on the head. Baldness happens when ones hair falls
out but no new hair reappears to grow in its place.
Baldness, hair loss
mostly happens to men when the follicle shrinks over a period
of time, resulting in finer and shorter hair.
The average amount
of hair loss for the average person is thought to be about a
100 strands a day. Baldness is found to be rarer in women than
it is in men, but still seems to affect more than thirty
million women in the United States alone.
Losing your hair
isn't really a life-threatening condition, but it is easy to
spend a lot of your hard earned money trying to re-establish a
full head of hair.
Causes
There are different
causes that are attributed to hair loss. One of the main causes
is that baldness can be heredity.
It also has many
other causes, including illness, skin damage, poor nutrition,
different medications, and specific medical treatments for
instance: radiation therapy and anticancer
chemotherapy.
Getting older is
also another big factor that causes baldness hair
loss.
Thinning
The thinning of
ones hair can be natural, but can cause quite a lot of
anxiety.
Probably the most
common form of baldness is an accelerating hair thinning
condition known as androgenic alopecia or 'male pattern
baldness' that occurs in adult male humans and other species
such as chimpanzees and stump tailed macaques.
Treatments
Treatments for hair
loss range from taking medicines to surgery. Some baldness
sufferers make use of treatments that have been proven
clinically, such as finasteride and topically applied minoxidil
(in solution) whilst trying to prevent further loss and maybe
even re-grow some hair.
It is generally
thought though, that it is easier to keep remaining hair than
it is to generate some more.
There is no
permanent baldness hair loss cure but by preventing hair fall
out, maybe one can prolong balding for some time.
